Student Internships
Hanes Gallery Internships
The Hanes Art Gallery internship offers students hands-on experience in the management of an academic art gallery, with specific attention to how the gallery serves as a site for exhibitions and events as well as learning and discourse in the arts.
Our interns can select to work in an area of focus, from programming and exhibition planning, to communications and marketing, to accessibility services for in-person and online visitors. Across all groups, interns develop skills in collaboration, communication strategies, timeline creation, and client/consumer services.
Interns take part in a weekly team meeting to check in on group projects and receive feedback from internship supervisors, the Director and Assistant Director of the Hanes Gallery. Throughout the semester, guest speakers will join intern meetings in order to provide feedback and professional perspectives from the broader community (Wake Forest University and beyond).
Programming and Future Planning Intern
Support the gallery with forthcoming events and the development of future exhibitions. Interns will provide administrative support for the following semester’s exhibition while also contributing to the current semester’s lineup of events. Tasks will include: researching artists, creating exhibition materials, and coordinating logistics with collectors, galleries and artists.
Engagement Intern: Marketing, Outreach & Event Planning
Interns develop skills in marketing and communications via the support of gallery events. Interns will design proposals to increase gallery visibility and engagement via a gap analysis and meetings with stakeholders across the WFU community. Tasks will include: creating social media campaigns, designing marketing materials, event planning, and communicating with campus partners.
Accessibility Intern: In-Person and Virtual Visitor Services
Learn about accessibility services in the visual arts. Interns will gain foundational knowledge in disability rights and services by learning about terminology, best practices, and ongoing debates within the field of accessibility. Throughout the semester, interns will work with staff to create and/or update resources that are provided by the Hanes Art Gallery and University Collections.
