MFA, Hunter College, 2006
Born in Leningrad, USSR, she settled in the United States as a political refugee in 1979.
Much of her work centers on questions about her own location and identity in the
context of cultural socialization, being on the move, emigration,
uprooting and transplanting the individual in a globalized world.
Visiting artist presentation: Tuesday, Jan. 31, 12:30pm, room 9, Art Dept.
Michael Gregory - Paintings (California)
BFA, San Francisco Art Institute, 1980.
Michael Gregory's “American Landscape” paintings radiate a contemporary old master look.
Painted in many layers of oil on panel, his barns, silos, stucco structures, and praise houses (one-room churches)
are quiet of palette, limited to white, black, gray with a mere suggestion of warmth
added by a sepia glow, and always with a dramatic sky, charged with mystery.
