Close observation and canny reporting are noteworthy operating principles underpinning Beth Sutherland’s art production. She encourages the viewer to think again about objects and their relationships. Urban artifacts and the spaces they inhabit are her ostensible subjects. Structures that are seemingly ordinary are presented in contexts that are in some way out of the ordinary. Her compositions are like long photographic exposures; the transient incident is too fugitive to register. . - Harry Titus, Professor of Art History, WFU
